The Client

SHAPE has been bringing spaces to life for 30 years, having evolved from a business focused on office fitouts and refurbishments to become one of the most successful stories in Australian property. While this growth has seen SHAPE deliver some amazing projects, larger scale projects have also brought their challenges.

The Challenge

SHAPE turned to software provider SignOnSite to help streamline the process. The software allows workers and visitors to sign in using a mobile app installed on their smart device. A digital site attendance register allows management to see in real time the number of people on site and which companies they work for. The software also allows SHAPE to run digital daily briefings and emergency evacuation drills, while electronically storing worker induction records and verification of competencies by allowing users to upload tickets and licenses creating worker passports.

SHAPE turned to software provider SignOnSite to help streamline the process. The software allows workers and visitors to sign in using a mobile app installed on their smart device. The software also allows SHAPE to run digital daily briefings and emergency evacuation drills, while electronically storing worker induction records and verification of competencies by allowing users to upload tickets and licenses creating worker passports.

While take-up of the smartphone app was reasonably high, a number of onsite workers and visitors did not have a smart phone or preferred not to install the app on their own device. For the system to work effectively, anyone accessing the site would need to be digitally registered. The need for a self-service sign-in kiosk was clear.

While SignOnSite offered a kiosk app suitable for tablets, more would be required to provide an effective low-cost sign-in kiosk across multiple projects. The tablet would need to be secured to prevent damage and loss, but also permanently kept on charge to avoid the battery depleting during the day or requiring overnight recharging. For a professional finish the cables would need to be concealed and the tablet content would have to be presented in a way to allow visitors to comfortably interact with the screen.

The Solution

After trialling a number of tablet stand options, SHAPE selected Sprocket’s X Floor stand with Extra Heavy Baseplate, configured for Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 2019.

The stand’s robust construction and the ability to bolt it to the floor made it ideal for the construction environment. X Floor’s adjustable screen allowed the app to be comfortably presented to visitors while ensuring the tablet was secured. The ability to conceal the tablet’s charge cable within the stand allowed for tidy installs.

Apart from meeting the functional requirements, X Floor’s all black anodised finish presented well to visitors, enhancing Shape’s brand.

The Australian designed and manufactured product was stocked and dispatched from Melbourne, meaning orders for X Floor could be promptly delivered to construction sites nationwide.

Darren Maguire, responsible for the procurement and distribution of the X Floor Stands for SHAPE, has been delighted with the product.  Managing orders for construction sites spread around the country is not a simple job, but Sprocket’s streamlined ordering process together with clear communication including accurate ETAs and full courier tracking has made Darren’s job that much easier.

Sprocket has now helped SHAPE to deploy X Floor to over 50 construction sites Australia Wide.
